November 18, 2015: Kirloskar Ebara Pumps Ltd (KEPL) has commissioned its first API 611 Steam Turbine ‘K-TUR’ at PT. PemukasaktiManishindah in Indonesia. It may be noted here that KEPL designed and developed the API 611-compliant steam turbine up to a power rating of 3000 Kw for the global API industry. In fact, the turbine is capable of variable speed/power operation of of 30-110 per cent of the boiler load and has been designed in a way that it has the best operational efficiencies over its designed life of 20 years.
KEPL has tested this turbine on part load for the first time using a calibrated pump to evaluate its operational performance in relation to the designed performance in addition to the No Load Mechanical Run Testing (NLMRT).
It may be noted here that this is KEPL’s first turbine in the international market. The commissioning of the K-TUR turbine was carried out in two stages. While in the first stage, all activities related to the grouting of turbine base, coupling with driven equipment (boiler feed pumps), and alignment with inlet and exhaust steam piping were monitored closely. Water and air piping connections and electrical wiring were then reviewed. In the next stage, KEPL engineers verified the quality of steam and ensured that it was of specified purity.Finally, turbine testing on load and over speed trip test was witnessed by customers and end users.
